Amalbert (720–800)
Priest
He was born and died in the Landshut region, Bavaria, Germany.
Biography
His father sent him to herd cattle to discourage him from becoming a priest. “Much better! This way I won't kill anyone and I can pray in peace,” he replied. Then his father sent him a few prostitutes to make him desist. But the first one who went towards Amalberto ran back with her companions. She told them that, as soon as she saw her, she rushed at her with a burning brand with the obvious intention, according to her, of burning her alive. When his father died he was able to follow his vocation. Ordained a priest, he settled in the center of the family domain to spiritually care for the servants who had fallen under the influence of his father. They could knock on his door day and night, just like the sick and destitute in the neighborhood. He received them all with open arms: his heart, his time and his fortune were with them.
