She belonged to the highest Byzantine nobility and had married Nebridius, prefect of Constantinople, at the age of eighteen.
Biography
She lost it after only twenty months of marriage and took the veil of a deaconess. Thanks to his immense fortune, he founded a hospital and an orphanage in the care of a community of nuns. When Saint John Chrysostom was elected Patriarch of Constantinople, Olympias became his spiritual daughter and his great support. When the Empress Euxodia deposed Saint John and began to persecute the faithful, Olympias had to go into exile in Bithynia where she died while still young, without uttering a complaint against her persecutors.
