Aglae and Saint Boniface (4th century)
Laywoman and martyr
Aglae was a Roman matron whose lover, it was said, was a certain Boniface, who was her administrator.
Biography
After embracing the faith, Aglae converted Boniface who received baptism and became a perfect Christian. One day she expressed her desire to have the relics of a martyr. Boniface promised to satisfy her and left for the East where Maximinus Gaius was still persecuting the Christians. Boniface was beheaded in Tarsus, Türkiye, for having proclaimed his faith in the stadium where Christians were tortured. The two slaves who accompanied him bought his head from the executioner and took it to Aglae, who deposited it in an oratory built by her on the Via Latina and where she went every day to pray to him.
