March 1
Albino (496–550)
Bishop
He was born in the region of Vannes in the year 496, France.
Biography
He was the son of a noble family, and renounced his title and inheritance to enter the abbey of Tincillac. Despite having a low profile, his virtuosity led him to be elected abbot in 504. In 529, he was elected Bishop of Angers. His death occurred on March 1, 550, and in 556 a church was dedicated to him in Angers, where his remains are found. During the Merovingian era, many knights married their sisters or daughters. While others remained silent for fear of the consequences, Saint Albino did not stop protesting. "You will see that they will have my head and that I will end up like Saint John the Baptist," he once said. This prediction never came to pass, as he finally achieved what he wanted: for the Church of Gaul to condemn these incestuous marriages and excommunicate those who contracted them.
