Alexander (1535–1592)
Bishop
He was born in Milan and at the age of 17 he entered the community of the Barnabite Fathers as a religious.
Biography
Once ordained he began to preach with such eloquence and good doctrine that Saint Charles Borromeo, archbishop of Milan, invited him to preach Lent in his cathedral. He was named superior general of his community and later archbishop of Corsica. Alexander set out to transform the atmosphere of superstition, ignorance and terrible revenge that existed on that island and he achieved it little by little. He visited the parishes one by one, demanding that catechism be taught and a good example be given. The saint worked in Corsica for twenty years and the change was so notable that the people called him “the apostle of Corsica.”
Practical advice
Trusting in God's grace, be grateful for the good received through the sacraments and also take care of the small details.
