Álvaro del Portillo y Diez de Sollano (1914–1994)

Engineer, priest and first successor of Saint Josemaría Escrivá at the head of Opus Dei, Álvaro del Portillo promoted sanctification in ordinary work and faithful service to the Church.
Biography
He participated as an expert in the Second Vatican Council and collaborated for years with various organizations of the Holy See. As prelate he promoted pastoral, educational and social activities in numerous countries, maintaining deep communion with the Pope and the bishops. He died a few hours after returning from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
