Saint Amand (584-679) One of the greatest missionaries of the Merovingian era in France.
Biography
This itinerant bishop exercised his apostolic zeal in northern France and Belgium, where he was beaten to a pulp and thrown into the river by the very people he wanted to convert. He waited until he was a nonagenarian to rest. He then retired to Elnon, one of the abbeys founded by him, where he died five years later.
