Biography
Roman by birth, Ambrose was prefect of police in Milan, when he was elected bishop of this city (374). He is one of the most well-drawn types of shepherd of souls. He energetically resists the usurpations of imperial power and at the same time dedicates himself to catechizing the people, commenting on the Holy Scriptures and spreading religious songs.
