Antonio Chevrier, priest (1826–1879)

Founding priest

French priest and founder of the Prado Work, Antonio Chevrier brought the Gospel to the workers and poor children of Lyon.

Biography

Ordained in 1850, he exercised his first ministry in a neighborhood marked by the misery of industrialization. Before the manger he understood that he had to follow the poverty of Christ more closely and let himself be guided by Saint John Mary Vianney. He transformed an old dance hall into a place for catechism, reception and preparation for the first Communion. He also trained priests capable of living near the people. The contemplation of Jesus Christ was the source of his simplicity, his poverty and his pastoral creativity.
