Biography
Franciscan, preacher and first saint born in Brazil, Antonio de Santa Ana Galvão was a spiritual guide and builder of a lasting work for consecrated women. He entered the Franciscan order after training with the Jesuits and was ordained a priest in 1762. He served São Paulo through preaching, confession, and deep attention to those who sought advice. He founded the Recollection of Our Lady of the Conception of Divine Providence, known as the Monastery of Light, and personally worked on its construction. His Marian devotion, prudence and charity earned him great popular confidence.
