Annunciation of the Lord
Solemnity
At the Annunciation, the angel Gabriel told Mary that she would conceive by the Holy Spirit and give birth to Jesus, the Son of the Most High.
Biography
Her free and humble answer—“Let it be done to me according to your word”—opened the way for the Word to become flesh. The feast therefore celebrates first the Incarnation of the Son of God and, inseparably, Mary’s faith-filled cooperation. Her consent was not passive: it was a complete gift of herself to God’s saving plan. Every Christian vocation finds in her response a model of listening, trust, and readiness to serve.
Practical advice
When you have the opportunity, order your time so as to protect a daily moment of prayer, and end it with a brief act of thanksgiving.
