Arnold Janssen (1837–1909)
Missionary Founding Priest
German priest and founder of the Society of the Divine Word, Arnold Janssen awakened a great missionary impulse in a difficult time for the Church.
Biography
Science teacher and promoter of the Apostleship of Prayer, he opened a house in Steyl to train missionaries destined for other continents. She also founded the Servants of the Holy Spirit and a contemplative branch, uniting evangelization and prayer. With patience he overcame misunderstandings, political borders and scarcity of resources. His work showed that the universal mission needs serious formation, cooperation and persevering trust in God.
