Athaliah (8th century)
Benedictine nun
Athaliah had been taken by her paternal aunt, Saint Odilia, to Hohenburg Abbey.
Biography
Atalía renounced marriage and religious life in her aunt's convent. Her father, Adalbert, Duke of Alsace, built a monastery for her in Strasbourg which was placed under the patronage of Saint Stephen. The Benedictine rule was followed, which the saint had softened “to make it bearable to the weakness of women.”
Practical advice
In a spirit of service, teach a truth of the faith with clarity and affection and end with a brief thanksgiving.
