Audemaro (6th century)

He was born in Coutances, France, and while a monk in Luxeuil, King Dagobert sent him as bishop to Therouanne.
Biography
This episcopal chair was left vacant after the Frankish invasion, and its faithful had returned to paganism. Audemaro re-Christianized them after founding an abbey in Sithiu (today Saint Omer, or Audemar) where he recruited his missionaries. In the last years of his life, he lost his sight, but he did not allow prayers for his healing because he said "Don't worry about my eyes. God takes care of it and He knows better than you and I what is best for me." He was buried, as he had requested, in his beloved abbey of Sithiu.
