Dominican Archbishop of Braga, Bartolomé de los Mártires was a reforming pastor who decisively applied the teachings of the Council of Trent.
Biography
He accepted the episcopacy out of obedience and personally toured his extensive diocese, teaching the people and promoting the training and holiness of the clergy. He actively participated in the Council, founded a seminary and wrote works to guide pastors. He lived with austerity and allocated his assets to the poor, rejecting any luxury incompatible with the needs of his flock.
