Basilio Antonio María Moreau (1799–1873)
Missionary Founding Priest
French priest and founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Basil Moreau responded to the de-Christianization after the French Revolution through missions and schools.
Biography
He brought together priests and brother educators in a single religious family, and also promoted a community of sisters. He wanted them to work together in the image of the Holy Family and to educate minds and hearts. The expansion of the work brought him misunderstandings and painful divisions, which he endured without abandoning his vocation. He died trusting that the cross would bear fruit.
