Biography
Slovakian Greek Catholic bishop, Basilio Hopko, suffered imprisonment and persecution for refusing to break communion with the Catholic Church. Priest, professor and first Greek Catholic parish priest of Prague, he was ordained auxiliary bishop of Prešov in 1947. When the communist regime declared his Church illegal, he was arrested, subjected to cruel interrogations and sentenced to fifteen years in prison. He left with his health destroyed and continued to serve discreetly; He died in 1976 as a result of the illnesses he suffered.
