February 1
Benedict Daswa (1946–1990)
Catechist
South African teacher, school director, catechist, husband and father, Benedict Daswa lived the Catholic faith in his family and in service to his community.
Biography
He promoted education, justice and peace, and was clearly opposed to superstition and the violence associated with witchcraft. That loyalty earned him enemies: on February 2, 1990, he was ambushed and murdered near his home. He died praying, as a witness that Christian conscience must also guide social and professional decisions.
