Bernardino Realino (1530–1616)
Jesuit priest
Italian Jesuit priest, Bernardino Realino exchanged a promising legal career for the service of God and came to be considered father and protector of the city of Lecce.
Biography
After studying medicine, letters and law, he held public office until joining the Society of Jesus in 1564. For more than forty years he taught, preached, confessed, cared for the sick and poor and accompanied people of all conditions. His charity was so esteemed that, before he died, the authorities of Lecce asked him to accept being patron of the city.
