Bona de Armagnac (1434–1462)
Franciscan nun
Bona belonged to a very noble family that was treated as equals with the kings of France.
Biography
Although she was good and charitable - she maintained a leprosarium for women herself - she did not want to follow the vocation of a nun to which she felt called. Finally the grace of God finally pushed her and she entered the convent with great pomp and accompaniment to the Poor Clares convent of Lézignan. Before she professed, her brother, the Duke of Nemours, came for her because he wanted to marry her for political reasons, and when he arrived he asked if her hair had already been cut. Bona asked, “Do you want to take me by the hair to take me to Carlat to get married?”, and, without thinking twice, she reached for the scissors and cut her beautiful hair herself. She died in the convent at the age of 28 and is remembered as a brave, joking, magnanimous and always cheerful woman.
Practical advice
As an offering to the Lord, ask for prompt forgiveness for domestic impatience without seeking applause or recognition.
