Catalina de María Rodríguez (1823–1896)
Religious
Born in Argentina as Josefina Saturnina Rodríguez, Catalina de María first lived the marital vocation: she was a wife, lost a daughter, and lovingly cared for the children of her husband's first marriage.
Biography
When she became a widow she resumed her desire for consecration and, after years of difficulties, founded the Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus, the first female congregation of apostolic life in Argentina. She opened an exercise house and dedicated herself to poor and vulnerable women. He knew how to begin a new mission at an age when others were ending their journey.
