Catherine of Sweden

He was born around the year 1331; He died in Vadstena (Sweden) on March 24, 1381, his parents were Saint Brigid and Ulf Guelmarsson, both relatives of the kings of Sweden.

Biography

She was educated in the Bisberg monastery, where she left to marry Edgar, a fervent Christian gentleman. Catherine was in Rome at the jubilee of the year 1350 when she lost her husband. And there he settled with his widowed mother as well. Catherine, still young and beautiful, had to face many suitors. One of them tried to kidnap her on two occasions. The first time, when she was going to the church of San Sebastián. But a deer suddenly appeared on the street, and the young man, who was a great hunter, let go of Catalina to run after the animal. In the second, he went to the Church of San Lorenzo. A veil fell over the pursuer, so that he could equally have kidnapped an old woman or a girl, and he gave up his project. Brigid the mother died after a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with her daughter Catherine in 1373. She took her body to Sweden and buried it in Vadstena, cradle of the Order of the Most Holy Savior founded by the deceased. Catherine returned to her homeland, where she was abbess of the Brigids of Vadstena until her death.
