Catherine Drexel (1858–1955)

He was born in Philadelphia into a prosperous family.

Biography

Katharine took a special interest in the daily material and spiritual lives of Africans and American Indians. For which he founded the order of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, and to serve the Indians and people of color. He also opened Missions in the west for American Indians and in the south for African Americans. In 1915 he also founded Xavier University in New Orleans. When she died, more than 500 Sisters were left teaching in 63 Schools. She was canonized on October 1, 2000 by Pope John Paul II.
