August 7
Cajetan of Thiene (1480–1547)
Priest
Son of counts and a native of Vicenza, Italy, Cajetan had a great future when he studied Law at the University of Padua and then, after receiving the indispensable tonsure, when he was apostolic prothonotary in the Curia of Rome.
Biography
He was private secretary to Pope Julius II. Cajetan stood out for being very pious, humble and generous. He dedicated his free time to caring for the sick. He created the “Montes de pieta” to lend money to very poor people. Together with his friend Juan Pedro Caraffa (later Pope Paul IV), he founded a society of clerics dedicated to preaching and liturgical service. These clerics were called “Theatines”, a name derived from the diocese in which Caraffa was bishop. Let us learn from his love for the poor and the sick.
Practical advice
With simplicity and joy, prepare well for a conversation in which you must guide someone and start again with humility if it doesn't go well.
