Caesarius (or Caesar) of Arles (+543)

He was born in Saône, France.
Biography
He entered the Abbey of Lèrins, where he soon fell ill as a result of the penances he inflicted on himself. His abbot sent him to recover in Arles, where he met the famous rhetorician Julion Pomerio and became his disciple. He was ordained a priest and ascended to the episcopal see. Throughout his mandate, Caesarius had conflicts with three barbarian tribes: the Visigoths, the Ostrogoths and the Franks, but despite everything, he gave the regional Church an unparalleled doctrine, preaching and culture. Two hundred and fifty of the ten thousand sermons he delivered over forty years have survived to our time.
