Clement Augustus von Galen (1878–1946)
Cardinal
Bishop of Münster during the Nazi regime, Clement Augustus von Galen publicly denounced the persecution of the Church, the confiscation of property and the murder of sick or disabled people through the euthanasia program.
Biography
His homilies circulated clandestinely and encouraged moral resistance, although he knew they could cost him his life. He chose as his motto "Neither for praise nor for fear" and sought to support persecuted priests and faithful. Created cardinal at the end of the war, he died shortly after. His courage showed the pastoral duty to clearly name an organized injustice.
