Columbanus, abbot
Abbot
Columban, an Irish monk, crossed the English Channel around the year 590 and evangelized the northeast of Gaul and the Rhine River region.
Biography
He settled near the region of Lorraine and founded a monastery there, subject to strict regulations. He leaves his community in full bloom and heads to Italy where he founds a new monastery (Bobbio) and dies there (615).
