Conrad of Plasencia
Franciscan religious
Saint Conrad of Piacenza He was born in Piacenza (Italy) in 1290, he died not far from Noto (Sicily) in 1351.
Biography
A hunting party changed the lives of the noble Conrad and his wife Euphrosyne. They were chasing a wild boar when the animal took refuge in the thicket. Conrad lit a fire to get it out, but as luck would have it, a strong wind arose and the fire spread. It was necessary to find a culprit, he seized a man who was collecting firewood and sentenced him to death. He soon regretted his baseness and ran to recant before the innocent man was executed. This was the first great favor he received from God. The second came when he had to pledge his fortune to repair the ravages of the fire. In this way, Euphrosyne and he began to live holy poverty and then each one of them by mutual agreement embraced the religious state. Euphrosyne entered the Poor Clares, while Conrad became a Franciscan tertiary. He spent the last thirty-six years of his life dedicated to caring for the sick and, later, to the eremitical life. Upon his death, the cities where he lived disputed his relics.
