Cosmas and Damian, martyrs
Martyrs
A very ancient tradition attests to the existence of his tomb in Cyrus (Syria), where a Basilica was also erected in his honor.
Biography
From there his cult passed to Rome, and later spread throughout the Church. Popular devotion adorned the destiny of these twin brothers with special affection and veneration, affirming that their homeland had been Arabia, where they learned the art of medicine, which they practiced so happily that they managed to free men and even animals from many diseases. They did not accept money for their services, since what they had received from God must also belong to God and his creatures. Since ancient times, doctors and apothecaries have chosen them as patrons of their profession. Part of his remains are preserved in the Church of Saint Michael, in Munich, Germany.
