Cunegonde (Kinga) (1224–1292)
Franciscan abbess
Daughter of the King of Hungary and wife of Prince Boleslaus of Krakow, Cunegonde—also called Kinga—lived at court with simplicity and dedicated her assets to the poor, sick, and needs of her people.
Biography
Together with her husband she supported religious works and promoted the canonization of Saint Stanislaus. Widowed and childless, she left her honors and entered the Poor Clares monastery that she had founded in Stary Sącz. There she served humbly, even as abbess. The people remembered her as a comforter, protector and mother of those in need.
