Darío Acosta Zurita, martyr (1908–1931)

Biography

Young Mexican priest, Darío Acosta Zurita, was murdered inside his parish just three months after receiving ordination. Orphaned by his father and raised in poverty, he helped his mother and siblings before entering the seminary. As vicar in Veracruz he dedicated himself to the catechism of children, confession and preaching in the midst of a new religious persecution. On July 25, 1931, some armed men entered the church and shot him down; His last word was the name of Jesus.
