Delfina de Signe and Saint Eleázaro de Sabran (13th century)
Married couple
This couple of French saints married very young and began a life of penance and prayer together, without anyone noticing and without neglecting the obligations of their state.
Biography
When they were separated, they found themselves, in the words of Eleazar, “on the open side of the crucified Savior.” At the age of twenty-three, Eleázaro inherited the counties of Sabran and Arialdo that were vassalage to the king of Naples, Robert the Wise. He trusted him so much that he entrusted him with the guardianship of his son Carlos, heir to the crown. Eleázaro died while carrying out a mission in Paris, sent by the king. Delfina spent the first twenty years of her widowhood at the court of Naples, because the pious Queen Sancha wanted to have her close. After Sancha's death, Delfina returned to her native Provence. When she died, she was buried in Apt next to her husband. His ashes are still venerated in the cathedral of this town.
Practical advice
During this day, give up unnecessary distraction for a few hours like someone who works and prays under the loving gaze of God.
