Irish Archbishop of Cashel, Dermot O'Hurley defended the Catholic faith during Elizabethan persecution.
Biography
He had been a law professor in Leuven and Reims before receiving ordination and secretly returning to Ireland. Arrested, he was subjected to terrible torture to force him to recognize the religious supremacy of the crown and confess to a non-existent conspiracy. He stood his ground and was hanged in Dublin on June 20, 1584.
