Passionist missionary priest

Italian Passionist priest, Dominic Barberi was a decisive instrument for the revival of Catholicism in England and received Saint John Henry Newman into the Church.

Biography

He joined the Passionists at the age of twenty-two and, after being ordained, he taught, wrote theological works and preached popular missions. For a long time he felt the call to work for the unity of English Christians. He arrived in England in 1841, where he faced poverty, ridicule and prejudice with patience and kindness. His humility, doctrine and charity opened numerous hearts. He died during an apostolic journey in 1849.
