Edmund (841–869)

confessor of faith

Last king of Estanglia, he had a reputation for being virtuous, charitable and humble.

Biography

When the Danes invaded England, Edmund confronted them, but was defeated and died after being taken prisoner by his enemies. His attribute is an arrow, since it is assumed that he was shot in such a way that there was no room for more arrows and he looked like a hedgehog or a new Saint Sebastian. His cult was very popular in medieval England and his relics were preserved at Bury Saint Edmund, West Suffolk, where a large abbey was founded.

Practical advice

Today, in the presence of God, exercise authority as a service and not as a privilege, doing everything for the love of God.
