Eduardo Profittlich (1890–1942)
Bishop
German Jesuit and archbishop, Eduardo Profittlich rebuilt Estonia's small Catholic community through parishes, clergy training, and pastoral closeness.
Biography
When the Soviet occupation made it dangerous to remain, he decided not to abandon his faithful. He was arrested, taken to prison on Soviet territory and subjected to interrogation and torture. Sentenced to death for his ministry, he died of hunger and illness before the execution. His faithfulness shows that a shepherd belongs to his people even when staying means sharing their lot.
