Eloy (588–660)
confessor of faith
Eloy was a goldsmith in Paris and King Clotaire sent him a good amount of gold to make a throne for him.
Biography
Eloy sent him two thrones, because he had leftover gold and he did not want to appropriate it. The king was pleasantly surprised and appointed him “chief monetary officer” in charge of minting all the money in the kingdom. Upon the death of Clotario, Eloy became an advisor and friend of King Dagobert I, called the Solomon of the Franks. This king allowed Saint Eloy to do all the charitable works he wanted: rescue prisoners, free slaves, found monasteries, etc. Two years after the king's death, Eloy was ordained a priest and soon became bishop of Noyon-Tournal, where he was greatly loved by his parishioners and converted a large number of pagan prisones in the north of his diocese.
Practical advice
