Enrique Angelelli and three fellow martyrs (†1976)
Martyrs
Bishop Enrique Angelelli, priests Carlos de Dios Murias and Gabriel Longueville and layman Wenceslao Pedernera were murdered in Argentina for living a pastoral ministry close to the poor and committed to justice.
Biography
In the diocese of La Rioja they accompanied farmers and workers, announcing the Gospel without resorting to violence. Murias and Longueville were kidnapped and murdered, Pedernera was shot dead in front of his family and Angelelli died in an attack disguised as an accident. His martyrdom occurred in 1976, during a repression that persecuted every voice of solidarity.
