A Lebanese Maronite lay brother, Esteban Nehmé achieved holiness in manual work, community life, and continued awareness of the presence of God.
Biography
Born as José Nehmé in a peasant family, he entered the Lebanese Maronite Order at the age of sixteen. He served in different monasteries as a carpenter, farmer, gardener and bricklayer; He especially cared for his elderly and sick brothers and always sought to prevent conflicts and reconcile people. Out of humility he preferred to remain a coadjutor brother, although he had the capacity for other ministries. He frequently repeated: "God sees me", an expression of his serene and responsible work.
