Stephen, the First Martyr
Deacon and martyr
Stephen was one of the seven chosen by the early Church to assist the apostles in serving the community.
Biography
Filled with grace and the Holy Spirit, he also preached Christ with wisdom and courage. False accusations led to his trial, where he bore witness to God’s saving work and saw the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God. As he was stoned, Stephen entrusted his spirit to Jesus and prayed that his killers be forgiven. His death made him the first Christian martyr and echoed the mercy of Christ on the Cross.
Practical advice
With simplicity and joy, forgive one concrete offense from the heart, placing the outcome in God’s hands.
