Eulalia of Mérida
Martyr
A young Christian martyr of the fourth century, she is venerated for the courage with which she offered her life for her faith in Christ.
Biography
The similarity between the stories of Saint Eulalia of Mérida and Saint Eulalia of Barcelona has led some to think that they were one and the same saint. There is, however, no conclusive evidence. It therefore remains possible that they were two different saints with the same name. In Mérida, Saint Eulalia bears the title «perpetual mayoress»; in Barcelona she is co-patroness of the city.
