Eustace van Lieshout, priest (1890–1943)
missionary priest
Dutch priest of the Sacred Hearts and missionary in Brazil, Eustaquio van Lieshout brought multitudes to the faith by caring for the poor and sick.
Biography
Inspired by Saint Damian of Molokai, he entered his congregation and was ordained in 1919. He arrived in Brazil in 1925 and served in several parishes, visiting families, organizing catechism, and ministering to those seeking relief. Healings were attributed to him through the intercession of Saint Joseph, but he tried to separate the people from superstition and lead them to the sacraments.
