Biography
Among the most illustrious martyrs of Roman Spain are Saint Fructuosus, bishop of Tarragona, and his deacons Augurius and Eulogius. Thanks to the Acts of their martyrdom, exceptional in their authenticity and written with sublime simplicity, we know precious details about the organization of the Church and Christian life in ancient Spain. Prudentius dedicated some of his finest verses to these saints. They died in Tarragona during the persecution of the emperors Valerian and Gallienus in the year 259.
