Frumencio (4th century)
confessor of faith
Although he was born in Lebanon, while on a study trip through the Red Sea, he was captured and taken to Axum, the Ethiopian capital.
Biography
He was sold as a slave to King Ella and Frumentius soon became his secretary. Upon the king's death, the queen took him as her main advisor, and this was used by Saint Frumentius to build chapels for the Greek Christians who traded in the country. Thus the first seeds of faith were planted in a people who still worshiped snakes. He was ordained bishop by Saint Athanasius and shortly after King Ézana was converted and, with him, all his people. Ethiopians know him as Abba Salama, Father of Peace.
Practical advice
In a spirit of service, teach a truth of faith with clarity and affection without seeking applause or recognition.
