Gaetana “Nuccia” Tolomeo (1936–1997)
Secular
An Italian laywoman, Gaetana Tolomeo—called Nuccia—suffered from the age of two from progressive paralysis that limited her life to a chair and a bed.
Biography
Far from isolating himself, he turned his house into a place of prayer, listening and Christian formation. He offered his sufferings for sinners and priests, maintained abundant correspondence and participated in radio programs that brought comfort to many people. His joy did not negate the pain: he showed that a physically limited life can be fruitful when open to relationship, intercession and love.
Practical advice
Today it makes it easier for a sick or disabled person to participate and contribute, instead of deciding for them that they should only receive help.
