Gaspar de Bufalo
Founding religious
(1786-1836) Saint Gaspar, canon, was the son of a family of ruined Roman aristocrats.
Biography
He was a weak and sickly young man who nevertheless worked tirelessly all his life. It is said that these three traits were characteristic of him: incessant activity, stubbornness and being “uncomfortable”. Stubbornness, because he preferred exile to swearing an oath to Napoleon when this prisoner was taken to the Pope and because he founded the Congregation of the Precious Blood, with the task of missionizing the most de-Christianized and dangerous regions, and he did so despite a thousand obstacles. And being “uncomfortable”, because he did not bite his tongue to denounce the abuses and corruption of some of the high Roman clergy. Obedient son of the Church, he does not hesitate to put his finger on the wound.
Practical advice
