Benedictine abbot
Although Gerard followed a career in arms from a very young age, when his father, the noble Lord of Brogne, died, he became a Benedictine and founded, on the family estate, an abbey that he fervently maintained until his death.
Biography
He also worked on the renovation of six more abbeys that belonged to his jurisdiction.
