Gisela
Nun
Daughter of Pepin the Short and consequently sister of Charlemagne.
Biography
He died at the beginning of the 9th century. She was born in Aire where she grew in age and beauty and had as spiritual director the monk Venancio, her father's former officer, who directed her to give her life to God. She reaffirmed her vocation mainly on three occasions: The first was by refusing to marry the Eastern Emperor Constantine Copronym. The second rejected the king of the Lombards and the third rejected was the king of Scotland, who behaved like a criminal for which Gisela made her face ugly and the suitor withdrew his proposal. But the saint regained her beauty and this king, angry at another refusal, ordered Venantius to be killed. This was the last push for Gisela to go to the convent where she lived for thirty years until her death.
