Biography
Daughter of Saint Edwin, king of Northumbria, she was abbess at Harlepool and at Whitby, a monastery, the latter founded by her. The Venerable Bede relates that this saint always had a very cheerful temperament, even in the last seven years of her life when, attacked by numerous illnesses, she suffered relentlessly.
