Biography
Isabel of Aragon, wife of King Denis of Portugal, was an exemplary wife and mother in the midst of many difficulties. Her husband had a violent temper and was not faithful to her, leading a scandalous life. She knew how to consistently carry out a daily plan that included: reading the Bible, participating in the Holy Mass, directing the work of the numerous staff, sewing and embroidering clothes for the poor, and in the afternoons visiting the sick and elderly. He lost his daughter and son-in-law and saw how his son, Alfonso, rebelled against his father, the king. In the midst of all those painful conflicts, Elizabeth prayed, fasted and tried to restore peace. An eloquent example of how a mother can and should be holy.
